Hope for NakuwaEkidorAs HSNP 2 Rolls Out

NakuwaEkidor, aged 44, lights up when the Hunger Safety Net Program is mentioned. She was among hundreds of Turkana residents who turned up at Lokore sub location, within Turkana’s Pelekech location to open a bank account.

Her joy is not far fetched. Nakuwa, a widow, who is a mother of seven children, enjoyed the benefits of cash transfers during the HSNP I.

“ If I am fortunate to receive cash transfer this time round, I will direct the entire amount all towards food and my children’s education, ” she shares.

Before receiving any HSNP Phase I funds, Nakuwa recalls living a harsh life. The challenges she faced ranged from frequent illnesses, lack of food, no school fees and occasional hunger pangs for the entire family.

As HSNP2 was rolled out, she considers the future hopeful as she expects to re-stock her livestock, access hospital facilities and even purchase clothes.
